Khao Soy Mae Sai

At a lot of my favorite Thai eateries in Chaing Mai, there is a clear Thai/Farang majority. Khao Soy Mai Sai is an exception. It’s usually pretty close to 50/50 here. This has partly to do with the fact that Khao Soy Mae Sai is located in Santitham, just a short jaunt from Maya. It also could be that every vlogger/YouTube personality/food tour video ever in Chiang Mai makes a stop here.

The biggest reason for the equal ratio is because Khao soy happens to be the Pizza of Thailand. Don’t spill your espressos or get your cigarettes in a bunch, I’m not saying that they taste the same. They are both loved by locals and foreigners a like. You can only get the real deal when eating them in their respective countries. And just like Pizza, bad Khao Soy is still pretty good.

The Khao Soy at this Chiang Mai institution is a great bowl. It’s not my favorite, but it’s also assuredly closer to the person reading this than my favorite spot. The version at Khao Soy Mai Sai is more on the curry side than the soup side as far as thickness goes. The serving size is also on the smaller side so you’ll be wanting to order it Pi-set (large sized); get the chicken. This place is a Chiang Mai institution for a reason.

Any of the soups here will run you about 40 baht.
